Even though it has been a mild winter where I am in the Mid Ohio Valley, I am ready for warmer weather and the start of youth soccer season! With warmer weather comes this reminder to parents: Screens are meant to keep bugs out, not to keep kids in. This is just one of many pieces of advice offered by the Window Safety Task Force. This industry group takes the time each year to share resources and tips every spring to commemorate Window Safety Week, the first full week of April each year. In 2024, that means Window Safety Week is recognized April 7-13. Use these weeks before that time to download Window Safety Week resources and share them next month on social media. If you have a social media scheduling tool, take the time to schedule your posts now so you’re ready for Window Safety Week.

For updates throughout Window Safety Week, follow the Window Safety Task Force here:

Window Safety Week serves as a way to raise awareness of what parents and caregivers should do to help keep their homes and families safer from the risk of accidental falls or injuries through windows. On the Window Safety Task Force several social channels, social media posts are tagged with either #WindowSafety or #WindowSafetyWeek. Accounts will be sharing window safety tips throughout Window Safety Week, so be sure to follow and share with your own followers. And don’t forget to tag us in your posts, too.

To help teach kids about window safety, an activity book is available that includes information for parents and caregivers. The Window Safety Week Tool Kits for both window companies and media outlets are evergreen, so they can be used each year. They are available for complimentary download, along with a helpful Window Safety Tips infographic. A gallery of downloadable images pertaining to Window Safety Week can also be found on Flickr.

You can easily access all these resources in one place at FGIAonline.org/windowsafety. FGIA and the Window Safety Task Force appreciate all efforts to get the word out about this important, but sometimes overlooked, child safety concern. Social media makes sharing links and tips with homeowners and customers incredibly easy, and I’m happy to help if you need suggestions on how to spread the word.
