Manufactured Housing Fenestration Products Certification

Like the AAMA Gold Label certification program, FGIA also offers certification for windows and doors used in manufactured housing (mobile homes). These products are tested for air, water and structural performance to meet the requirements of the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD).

The Manufactured Housing Fenestration Products Certification Program is a third-party product testing and quality control verification program sponsored by FGIA. It is based on the conviction that any standard of quality is only as good as the application and continuous adherence to the requirements of the standard by those who claim to comply with its provisions.

The program is governed by AAMA 104, Procedural Guide for Certification of Manufactured Home Fenestration Products: Windows/Sliding Doors, Emergency Exit Windows and Devices, Swinging Exterior Passage Doors.

How to participate

Who Is Eligible?

Manufacturers of windows and doors intended for installation into manufactured housing that meet the requirements of AAMA 1701.2, 1702.2 or 1704 are eligible to participate in the AAMA Manufactured Housing Certification Program.

Step-by-Step Participation Guide

1. Test Your Product Testing(s)

  • Submit a product sample to an AAMA Accredited Laboratory for performance testing.
  • Products are tested to AAMA 1701.2, 1702.2 or 1704.
  • Testing is typically the most time-intensive step, so we recommend beginning this process as early as possible.

2. Review Program Requirements and Apply

Tip: Bundling programs can help reduce overall certification costs.

3. Submit Your Quality Management System (QMS)

  • Provide your QMS manual to our program Validator, Associated Laboratories, Inc. (ALI), for review.
  • The manual must describe quality procedures for each manufacturing location that will produce certified products.
  • ALI will evaluate your QMS for compliance with the minimum requirements outlined in AAMA 104 Section 16.0.
  • You will be notified if clarifications or changes are needed.

4. Test Report Review

  • Once testing is complete, the laboratory will send a test report and drawings to ALI for evaluation.
  • These documents serve as the technical reference for certification and are used during factory inspections to verify that production matches the tested design.

5. Authorization to Certify

  • Once your QMS and test reports are approved and all fees are paid, FGIA will issue an Authorization for Product Certification (APC).
  • Your certified products will be listed in the Certified Products Directory (CPD).
  • The certification term for the AAMA 104 program does not expire. Instead, manufacturers are required to send in a production model unit each year from each facility manufacturing certified products for testing to the referenced specification.
  • Details on production model testing can be found in AAMA 104 Section 17.
  • Begin certifying products by applying the AAMA MH Certification Label

6. Label Your Products

  • Begin labeling your products with the AAMA MH Certification Label at the place of manufacture.
  • Products are not considered certified until properly labeled.
  • Labels may be ordered by contacting ALI directly.

Manufacturers may also print their own labels or use alternate marking methods (e.g., glass etching) in accordance with AAMA 104 Section 8.2.

After Certification | Ongoing Compliance

Once certification begins, FGIA inspectors will conduct biannual, typically unannounced inspections to ensure:

  • Certified products are being fabricated as tested, or with approved modifications.
  • The approved QMS is being properly followed.

If any discrepancies are found, the licensee must respond within 30 days with a Corrective Action Plan that includes:

  • Immediate containment of the issue
  • A root cause analysis
  • Measures to prevent recurrence
