What an amazing experience it was to attend Top Glass in Mississauga, Ontario last month! Along with Amy Roberts, FGIA Director of Canadian and Technical Glass Operations, we had the opportunity to connect with literally hundreds of professionals in the Canadian fenestration and glass industry in the FGIA booth. We met so many people that day and I look forward to going back to Top Glass! Thanks to Patrick Flannery and his team at Annex Media, the organizer of the event, for putting on such a great show.

With a steady stream of visitors to our booth, FGIA worked hard at Top Glass to promote our Canadian code and regulatory initiatives, product performance standards and several education programs, such as residential window installer certification, Fundamentals of Fenestration, FenestrationMasters® and the popular IG Fabricators Workshop. With many of these education programs offered online, they are convenient and effective resources for accessing the latest insights on fenestration and insulating glass product performance.

FGIA has been especially focused on expanding our Canadian presence in the last few years and we are about to do much, much more. The upcoming FGIA Summer Conference, happening June 12-15, will be in Vancouver, BC and happens to feature a slate of Canadian-focused topics and information. Several aspects of this conference are tailored to those in Canada, including a full day of special discounted access for members of the FGIA FENBC Region. Canadian-specific topics include the National Building Code of Canada’s goal related to the Path to Net-Zero Houses by 2030 and its impact on fenestration as well as ways to leverage window replacement rebates in BC with qualified installers.

Additionally, FGIA will be hosting a strategy and networking event in Surrey, BC on June 16, following the conference. Glazing contractors in British Columbia are invited to participate in this in-person event focused specifically on their needs During this afternoon meeting, construction lawyer, Vanessa Werden (Jenkins Marzban Logan), will share insights on handling price escalation and other construction contract challenges. I will host a discussion forum on the critical topics affecting glazing contractors’ business, including hiring and apprentice training needs and how the FENBC Region can best serve glazing contractors. Finally, professionals will have the opportunity to connect with each other during the networking reception.

Don’t miss out on these upcoming networking and learning opportunities! Registration for all of the June FGIA events in BC is now open. Book your spot today!
