Three Social Media Resolutions for 2025
The start of a new year is a great time to reassess goals and strategies, whether that means personally or professionally. Plus, it is a convenient time during which to take stock of what worked – and what didn’t – so we can make plans for the coming weeks and months. Below are my three New Year’s resolutions for FGIA’s social media channels for 2025, which include planning ahead, exploring new (or new to you) platforms and making good use of the existing tools and materials.
- Plan ahead. At FGIA, we have an editorial calendar for tracking industry events and holidays. I spent the last few weeks of 2024 updating what is to come in 2025 so I can give myself a heads up about things like Manufacturing Day (the first Friday in October each year) and Window Safety Week (the first full week of April). If you know you’ll be out of the office, schedule posts in advance when possible. For example, we use Hootsuite to load content up to several weeks ahead.
- Explore “new” platforms. There has been a lot of change in recent years in the social media world! Twitter was a valuable tool for the industry, and it has become somewhat of a ghost town since it rebranded as “X.” Try as I might, I have yet to find a good replacement for live-tweeting our conferences and regional events. I am hoping a clear frontrunner makes itself known in 2025. In the meantime, I have been utilizing an existing platform as a “new” source for information sharing. In that process, the benefits of LinkedIn have been rediscovered, so I will be spending more time on that platform this year to further expand my industry network.
- Use what you have. By now, FGIA has a decent store of templates from which we can make new social media posts, generate newsletters, create graphics and find photos in our files for various needs. Take inventory of the elements you have at your disposal for your social media posts, whether it’s infographics or maybe some footage from a previous event your company participated in. In addition to this, make a list of the things you still need. For example, we have an ongoing “wish list” of stock photography, and when we have leftover monthly Shutterstock credits, we simply purchase items from that wish list.
