This year, FGIA is excited to participate in the new Skills Challenge where our technical experts will be testing your knowledge to help them offer better installations and insulating glass products. The Main Stage continues to be a can’t-miss venue, hosting three days of learning, networking and industry celebration. There, FGIA will offer educational sessions on field testing and solutions for supply chain disruptions.
FGIA in the Skills Challenge
In FGIA’s first interactive skills challenge, “InstallationMasters® | Proper Weatherproofing,” Aaron Blom, FGIA Technical Training Specialist, will focus on best practices for proper residential window installation techniques, based on FMA/AAMA 100, addressing window installation in wood frame construction for areas subjected to extreme wind and water conditions . Two stations will allow participants to test their talents at creating a flexible sill pan and applying self-adhering flashing. Prizes will be a free Fundamentals of Fenestration online course (three winners will be chosen)!
Our second skills challenge is called, “Insulating Glass Fabrication | Failures and Flaws.” This challenge will include two stations from the popular two-and-a-half-day FGIA IG Fabricator Workshop, focused on ensuring proper sealant mix and identifying flaws in insulating glass units (IGUs). The forensic investigation performed at the workshop is a participant favorite and tests your knowledge of identifying failures to avoid these in fabrication and maximize the effectiveness of an IGU. Prizes will be a free Fundamentals of Insulating Glass online course (again, three winners will be chosen)!
FGIA on the Main Stage
I will be moderating a session called, “Innovative Strategies to Mitigate Impacts from Supply Chain Disruptions: A Panel Discussion.” Here, experts from across the industry will discuss tactics for managing unpredictable supply chain disruptions. Hear practical insights on staying ahead of global compliance and establishing a nimble infrastructure allowing effective delivery of products to market. Industry veterans will share actionable strategies that can be implemented in your own company to help insulate your business from delays, additional costs and lost productivity.
Also on the Main Stage, Aaron will be presenting, “Field Testing for Commercial Fenestration Systems.” Once products have been installed, how can you confirm they are performing as intended? Aaron will share insights from AAMA 503, which outlines test methods for evaluating the performance of newly installed storefronts, curtain walls and sloped glazing systems. These tests provide reasonable assurance that the installed product is performing to the required air leakage and/or water penetration performance levels.
