The Fenestration and Glazing Industry Alliance (FGIA) is pleased to announce the appointment of FGIA Certification Services Manager, Fenestration, Jason Seals, to serve as a voting member of the Florida Structural Technical Advisory Committee (TAC). This 12-person committee plays a vital role in the development of the Florida Building Code (FBC), reviewing International Code Council (ICC) I-codes language which may be considered for adoption in Florida, and proposals from the public, before making recommendations to the Florida Building Commission (FBC) about what should be considered for incorporation into the FBC.

Development of the 8th Edition of the Florida Building Code is now underway, with a projected effective date of December 31, 2023. The Structural TAC also fulfills other roles and either meets in person (throughout Florida) or virtually.

“I appreciate being appointed to this important role,” said Seals. “My years of experience in testing, manufacturing and certification of products, as well as my familiarity with the Florida Product Approval program, will help to serve the residents of Florida by creating safer and more resilient structures through improvements to the building codes.”

In addition to Seals, FGIA member Dean Ruark, Vice President, Engineering, at PGT Innovations, also serves on the Florida Structural TAC after being appointed to a seat last fall, representing manufacturers. As openings arise, TAC members are appointed to serve until further notice.

FGIA member Rod Hershberger, Chairman and CEO at PGT Innovations, serves on the Florida Building Commission, also representing manufacturers.

Seals will attend the FGIA Southeast Region Exclusive Session February 28 during FGIA’s Hybrid Annual Conference in Florida through March 3, to engage with participants. He can also be reached by email at jseals@fgiaonline.org.
