InstallationMasters Continues through Virtual Training Options
As we move into warmer weather, interest in remodeling projects and window replacement increases among homeowners. With proper installation being such a critical component of realizing the full benefits of high-performing fenestration products, offering installation services performed by a qualified installer – evidenced by a third-party professional certification – adds value to your bid and allows your customers to be confident in the knowledge and expertise of your team.
FGIA is proud to offer InstallationMasters® which has been available to the industry since the late 1990s. Prompted by the Building Environment and Thermal Envelope Council (BETEC) through the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE), it is an FGIA program originally developed by AAMA. This training and professional certification program is designed specifically for installers of windows and doors and it focuses on new construction and replacement markets in residential and light commercial construction.
There are three programs available – one that covers both replacement and new construction, and then separate programs covering each of these segments independently. Each program offers information on industry-accepted best practices and other critical information related to the window and door installation business.
A key component of the program is the accreditation of instructors to teach installer candidates around the country and regularly throughout the year. Although traditionally always taught in-person, COVID forced a pivot to offer virtual training classes. This has proven to be a successful option for both installer and instructor classes.
What’s most exciting about this program is the upgrade it has received over the last couple of years. All three versions of the program have undergone major content updates to include instruction on newer installation practices. More drawings and illustrations have been added with enhanced detail to support varied learning styles. And improvements have been made to the training tools available to instructors.
Installer classes are being offered in 2021 with flexible scheduling options. Additionally, several instructor trainings are coming up soon.
