Now is the time to begin planning to attend this fall’s best opportunity for hands-on training to learn best practices for the most important aspects of fabricating and testing IG units. Registration is now open for the next in-person Insulating Glass (IG) Fabricators Workshop, November 1-3 at the Intertek Testing facility in Plano, TX. Discounted rates are available for second and subsequent registrants from the same member company.

According to the FGIA market study, IG is used in over 90 percent of the windows and glazed doors sold across North America. Though IG fabrication is a well-known process, it is sensitive to variations that can lead to early use failure. Although rare, such failures can be highly visible and may require window replacement.

Since its launch in 2016, the FGIA Insulating Glass Fabricator Workshop has addressed best practices for the most important aspects of fabricating and testing IG units. Through a mix of classroom education along with a primary focus on hands-on demonstrations, the workshop showcases best practices for the typical IG fabrication stages, as well as an opportunity to witness components of the physical testing per ASTM E.2190 that goes into certification of IG units as required by NFRC standards, building codes, and the ENERGY STAR® program.

The next in-person workshop will be held November 1-3, 2022, at the Intertek Testing facility in Plano, TX, near Dallas. Typical modules for the workshop are:

  • Station 1: Glass Cutting and Washing
  • Station 2: Spacer and IG Fabrication
  • Station 3: Sealants / Hot Melt Sealant / Sealant Adhesion and Butterfly Test
  • Station 4: Volatile Fog
  • Station 5: Gas Filling and Measurement / Frost Point
  • Station 6: Desiccants and Desiccant Matrix
  • Station 7: Forensic Investigation of IGU Failures

For those unable to attend in-person, FGIA offers a video series option. Developed in 2021, this series offers a condensed version of the workshop in 20- to 30-minute segments, ideal for busy professionals.
